Description

Understanding and analysing the mystic quest at each of its stages: such is the bold challenge which Evelyn Underhill masterfully undertakes here. She offers a subtle analysis of the different phenomena routinely associated with the term “mystic” while making a significant contribution to the testimonies of the great mystics. The finesse of this analysis enables the reader to understand what the mystic quest consists of, how it manifests and is expressed as well as where this longing, this desire springs from. Evelyn Underhill is able to immerse us within the world which the mystic reaches. The book contains an extensive bibliography. Evelyn Underhill, enjoys wide renown in English-speaking countries, but unfortunately the same cannot be said of France. This injustice has, in part, been redressed thanks to the publication of this major work.
