Mandela and Gandhi : this book evokes what motivated them to take action and the battles they fought against discrimination.  Their failings and shadows are not omitted in the authors' analysis of their responses to injustice, division and their own inner struggles.

Where did they get the strength that pushed them to surpass themselves and fully commit themselves for their people, while never once moving away from their goal,  and to choose non violence and reconciliation in the face of adversity? Their inner stringency went beyond a simple political struggle; it became a spiritual quest and a profound self transformation.

Can we talk of them as a new form of saintliness, non religious but spiritual and committed?  What lessons can be learned from the journey of these two wise people who were able to combine political action with the defense of universal values such as justice, equality and freedom?
