Louis-Claude de Saint-Martin

The Century of the Enlightenment was also that of Illuminationism, and Louis-Claude de Saint-Martin (1743-1803), the Unknown Philosopher, was one of the leading French representatives of these theosophists to whom Diderot would dedicate an Encyclopaedia entry. The author presents an analysis of his theories, his conceptions of nature and of man’s future in the world as well as his reaction to the revolutionary event. It also focuses on the relationship in the texts which nurtured the ideals of the Enlightenment.
