Le Mont Saint-Michel

Mont Saint-Michel is not only an architectural wonder dedicated to the archangel, positioned on a mythical rock jutting from the sea: its builders left messages upon it so that the traveller would become a pilgrim and undergo spiritual alchemy. The author takes us on an initiatory visit of Mont Saint-Michel, over three different routes, without haste, quite serenely, in order to experience the places and at each moment find harmony with the elements. The first journey explores the profane path to discover Mont Saint-Michel, followed by the wild path to discover the gardens. The second takes us to the abbey and the secret heart of Mont Saint-Michel. The last is taken at night, on the path of the Ancients. At each stage the author guides us step by step, detail after detail. Through the large number of photographs we can enjoy the sculptures in particular, along with the crests or keystones. Short notes introduce us to the history and symbolism of the locations. Lastly, four removable folders summarise the three routes. From Mont Tomb to Mont Saint-Michel, from the shadows into the light, this book also invites us to the innermost depths of ourselves, for introspection on the meaning of the quest.
