La nouvelle musique des sphères

In ancient times, music had a much broader significance than it has today and was associated with all the arts connected to the Muses (dance, comedy, astronomy, rhetoric, etc.). Notions of art and science were also interconnected... and astronomy made up part of music! It was in this way that the Ancient Greeks developed a symbiosis of the art of sounds and the science of celestial spheres. A musical note was assigned to each celestial sphere, and the heavens thus played host to an eternal concert. This work immerses us into the secrets of music and spheres present since Antiquity until the modern day, alongside the evolution of scientific knowledge. It also introduces to the music of stars and even that of the sun, which is not directly audible but which can now be converted and rendered accessible to our musical ear. This book thus revisits the tradition of the Muses and blends art and science, giving new meaning to the ancient and charming idea of the music of spheres.
