La Cité du Soleil

In 1602, the Calabrian philosopher Tommaso Campanella wrote “The City of the Sun”. The book takes the form of a dialogue between a Grandmaster of the Knights Hospitaller and a Genoese Sea-Captain who tells him of what he has seen in the City of the Sun. The City of the Sun is the reflection of the universe created by God and which must therefore function in the image of nature. The City of the Sun is a prophetic dream, but, for Campanella, it also represents the projection of a possible golden age.
