For Gurdjieff, man is yet to reach the limit of his evolution. He exists in a state of sleep and only intense personal effort, coupled with the instruction received from a school, can enable him to attain awareness of the self and of all. The author describes the nature of our three main centres, the physical, emotional and mental, and insists on the need to bring them into harmonious working order.
