Maria Montessori (1870 – 1952) believed that children possess all that is necessary to develop harmoniously.  We need to create the right environment, guide them without coercion and respect the phases of their development. By thus creating favourable conditions for their development, they will learn by themselves, at their own pace and through their own experiences.

In this book designed for school teachers, Maria Montessori explains how to organise a day in the classroom and respect a child’s rhythms and needs. She also explains how the body is paramount to intellectual development and indicates how to organise the layout of the classroom so that children feel free to move around while respecting the work of the others, and so that they may feel autonomous.
