This CD offers you a musical stroll through the imperial capital, with a variety of music types: variations of a famous melody for initiation to the koto, the “Japanese harp”; a piece written for a silent film; ha-utas, or brief songs; a percussion ensemble to accompany the float procession during the Gion festival, etc.
While some pieces belong to the traditional Japanese music repertoire, the more recent pieces contain Western sounds.
Seven musicians representative of Japan’s musical tradition have been brought together for the occasion, allowing you to discover traditional instruments such as the koto, the samisen, the kokyû, shakuhachi, shinobue and nôkan flutes, different drums, bells and gongs.
