Description
And what if instead of being the besmirched and reviled traitor, Judas was in fact the true initiate, the one closest to the Master who was even meant to pass on his message? This hypothesis, now back on the agenda (following the reappearance of a manuscript called the Gospel of Judas), is examined by Emile Gillabert. She identifies its foundations in the canonical gospels, and its confirmation in the Gospel according to Thomas, discovered in 1945 in Nag-Hammadi. In these important documents, which remain unrecognised by the church, the name of Judas is associated with the of Thomas, which means Twin, alter ego, and sometime that of Didyme, which is also a synonym of Twin. This double, even triple name, is still used to indicate the disciple which Jesus loved, the initiate. Under these circumstances, the rehabilitation of Judas, if accepted, can only be partial, and the kiss of Judas, instead of being a tell-tale sign, becomes the evidence of loyalty, courage and fraternal Love.
