Atlas des Cités Perdues

The “Atlas des Cités Perdues” evokes the nostalgia of those towns, small and large, in Europe, Asia, America or Africa, which for various reasons have now disappeared:  Antinoe, Carthage, Teotihuacan, Pompeii, Leptis Magna, Masada, Angkor, or Shi Cheng.  Some names still resonate while others are just memories, and the author brings them alive and reminds us of their destiny.  “While I love towns, these open, perpetually changing worlds, I love even more the ones that have gone silent, where a wealth of imagination can be deployed.  Because they no longer exist,” she says, “they can become the ideal city, the one we have always dreamed of.”  

Well-presented and illustrated, with two to four pages per lost city, this atlas lets us dream of a different world where these ruins once shone intact.
