Description

Alchemy, a term which brings to mind the aroma of salt, sulphur and mercury, and the mere mention of which transports the reader into a dimly lit workshop ruled by hell fire. The secret within this practice was long forgotten and consigned to oblivion until the beginning of the 20th Century, when Carl Gustav Jung saw in its symbols a description of the evolution of human consciousness. The theme has hitherto been presented from different perspectives in thousands of works. So why write another one? Despite youthful characteristics, alchemy, often symbolised by a women in a celestial, blue dress dates back to the most ancient of times. This apparent contradiction in fact reveals its timeless quality and means that its language requires continual update. Its discourse should be made available to as many people as possible whilst avoiding the trap of altering its symbols, in other words without reducing the scope of what it shows without ever saying it. This work also aims to explicitly reunite elements of the two sides of alchemy: the operational and spiritual. It therefore, in simple terms, presents ideas on alchemy, with particular regard to its metaphysical aspects, thereby opening up the door to the perception of a living and intelligent universe. As for the spiritual dimension of alchemy, it is broadly developed, as is spiritual alchemy which will enable man to participate in the evolution of a world into which he must integrate.
