These first writings of Christian literature show us that nineteen centuries ago, men were already trying to invent a life which both reconciled the human and transcended it, the personal and the collective. They did not introduce the whole of humanity to it, but they at least succeeded in forming small communities where, for a while, the discipline of the institution and the generosity of the prophetic zeal were united in their announcement of the Good News of Christ. This volume contains the epistles of Clement, Barnabas, Ignatius of Antioch and Polycarp, the Martyr of Polycarp, Didache and Papias of Hierapolis.
