Description
What is philosophy? How is it constructed? And how can the two things be combined? This is the difficulty which Alexandre Jolien presents in this book. By means of letters written to philosophy, and to the thinkers who have helped construct it, Jolien shows us the path which leads to philosophy and the tools which it has provided him. Having had to confront the view and comments of others, the author strives to impose his perspective. But this struggle fatigues, and he wished to be able to exist and to be, without having to constantly justify himself. Alexandre Jollien immerses himself in the classics of philosophy. Epicurus, Schopenhauer and Spinoza played an important role at different points in his life and he thanks them here in the letters he sends them. Thanks to his philosophy masters, Alexandre Jolien learnt to free himself from influence, desires and longings for greater personal development. This enabled him to understand what we or others view as right or wrong, good or bad, due to the view that we take on these things and not what it truly is.
