Description

The fruit of lengthy reflections since the 1890s, Saint-Yves d'Alveydre's "L'Archéomètre" ["The Archeometer"] remains incomplete following his disappearance in 1909. Papus gathered a number of writers with expertise in different domains, including music and esotericism, in order to reassemble the notes and outlines left behind by the scholar. This significant work was published in 1912. It consists of two parts. The first part, titled "The true wisdom", is subdivided into two further parts: "The wisdom of man and paganism" and "The wisdom of God and Christianity". Saint-Yves d'Alveydre addresses mental regression and spiritual death in these sections, these being wounds afflicting society as a result of the rise in paganism throughout history. He demonstrates that Christianity can lead men towards spiritual life. A pattern is evident, with the fall on one side, reintegration on the other. Man, having free will, may choose the one or the other. The second part of "l'Archéomètre" presents a planisphere and various measurement instruments invented by Saint-Yves d'Alveydre which make it possible to establish correspondences between colours, planets, signs of the Zodiac, musical notes, the letters of ancient sacred alphabets and numbers, with the aims first of developing an understanding of the religions and sciences of Antiquity, and subsequently of determining the value of every philosophical, scientific and religious system, in order to place it in the tree of tradition. This book is a facsimile of the 1934 edition. It consists of a single large volume (24cm x 32cm) including 5 colour plates, 10 portraits and 100 figures and tables.
