Guillaume de Machaut - Mess of Notre Dame - 14th Century

The Mess of Notre Dame is a work composed in the 14^th century by the musician and poet Guillaume de Machaut (c. 1300 – 1377).  This mass for four voices most probably dates back to the beginning of the 1360s.  Its exceptional character lies in the fact that it is the first polyphonic setting of the ordinary of the mass – Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, Agnus Dei – to be entirely written by one author.
